2022 Backyard Buffers Program

The sign up period for the 2022 Backyard Buffer Program is now open!

Do you have a stream, drainage ditch, pond or other waterway on your property? Would you like free trees to plant along that waterway? Participants will each receive a packet of 25 bare root tree seedlings (approx 1-2 ft tall). This year's packet will include 5 each of white pine, hazelnut, yellow poplar, swamp white oak and red osier dogwood. To be eligible, you must have property in Allegany or Garrett County along a waterway where you plan to plant your trees.

Requests to participate must be received by March 18, 2022. Those who qualify will receive additional information on where and when to pick up your trees. Pickup will be set for mid-April (yet to be determined depending on when trees arrive from the nursery). More information on the program can be found on the attached flier. There are a limited number of trees available. Those who sign up after the program has filled will be placed on the wait list. Please use the Google Form below to request trees.
