2023 Scholarship Recipient - Annie Martin

Annie Martin has been selected to receive the 2023 Garrett County Forestry Board Scholarship of $500. Annie is a graduate of Southern High School and is entering her 2nd year in the Natural Resources & Wildlife Technology Program at Garrett College. Presenting the award to Annie are Mike Minnick (GCFB Chair) and Melissa Nash (GCFB Secretary).

Annie maintains a 4.0 GPA and an impressive list of natural resource related activities and work experience. She is a member of the Garrett College Wildlife Club and has participated in the College's annual northern saw-whet owl banding project as well as a spring break trip to Arizona to conduct grassland restoration work and invasive plant removal. Annie has also volunteered with The Nature Conservancy to plant red spruce seedlings in the Cranesville Swamp Preserve and with Friends of Blackwater to identify and remove invasive plants along the Blackwater Canyon Trail. She is currently working at the Kempton Mine Complex for the summer conducting wetland inventories.

Garrett College professor Kevin Dodge noted that Annie wants to excel and is always prepared for classes and tests and has even taken an extra Regional Songbird Identification class this year, which is not required by the program. He noted that she also often spends time helping fellow students study for tests and work on class projects. Congratulations Annie and we wish you continued luck in your studies and future career!
