GCFB member Mike Kozier and forester Melissa Nash measured a Tamarack (American Larch, Larix larcinia) for the Big Tree Program. The largest trees of each species are recognized in each county and for the state. This tree remains the Garrett County and MD State Champion tamarack. Tamarack is a conifer that sheds its needles. This particular tree is along the shoreline of Deep Creek Lake and is just starting to grow its needles for the year.
