The Garrett County Forestry Board is once again hosting a Grow Your Own Shiitake Mushrooms workshop this spring! Proceeds will benefit our scholarship fund (which offers a $500 scholarship each year to a local student pursuing a degree in a natural resources field)! Participants will learn some of the basics of mushroom cultivation from Board member Bill Aiken and inoculate their own log to take home. The event will be held Saturday April 22, 2023 from 9am-noon at the Tamarack Pavilion at Deep Creek Lake State Park. Registration is $30/person with a sign up deadline of April 14th or limit of 35 participants (last year's event sold out). Also, if you know of any graduating seniors or current college students who would like to apply for the scholarship, those applications will be accepted through May 1st. Applicants can attend any college, university or technical school as long as they are a Garrett County resident and pursuing a degree in a natural resources field.
